Schematics and History
History of the name "Chinook"
When deciding upon a name, our crew wanted something that would signify and represent the Northwest United States. One of the largest Native American tribes from the Northwest is the Chinook Indian Nation. The name also comes from the Chinook salmon which has influenced many of the design decisions for our ship. Examples of this are in our logo, our motto "Against All Odds, We Return," our newsletter name "The Fish Ladder," and in various locations around our site.
History of the vessel name USS Chinook
There were two vessels commissioned by the United States Navy named "Chinook." The first was the USS Chinook ID-644. The second was the USS Chinook PC-9. More information can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/uss_chinook
History of the USS Chinook NCC-71204
We first launched on September 19, 2009 in Renton, Washington, United States. Since then we have been recruiting members, getting involved with various organizations and charities, clipping coupons for the Overseas Coupon Program, and preparing for our commissioning in a few months.
